Sunji Ali A.K.A. Gene A. Williams, Founder and President
of Soul Vision Productions, was born at a time of stagnation in
America, but grew up during a period of great change in America.
His beginnings were in the mid-south, in Marvel, Arkansas, moving
to northern California at the beginning of one of the most vigorous
points of the Civil Rights Movement: Soldiers coming home from World
War II finding out the extent to which "My Buddy" truly
went, Brown vs. Board of Education, miscegenation for love or to
be defiant, and as always the music, music, music...
He attended schools in Hayward, California and the socially conscious
East Oakland. He matriculated at San Francisco City College, and
Berkeley University obtaining a Bachelor of Arts. He obtained a
Master of Arts from the University of California at Los Angeles
– UCLA.
Sunji Ali is a teacher having taught on the college
level at Chico state University, and in Los angeles and Compton
School districts. He has toured America lecturing on Black History
and reciting poetry in churches, libraries, civic halls theatres,
restaurants, schools, colleges, and universities. He has presented
plays with stellar casts drawing from the California Jazz &
Blues Music international melting pot and the Hollywood local set
at the former CrossRoads Theatre owned by Actress Marla Gibbs. His
plays have also toured local churches as well.Soul Vision Productions
produced the anthology Deep River Rythms featuring poetry by members
of Soul Vision with great reviews.
